The journey will start from San Jose in the morning after breakfast. With the rental cars we will head to the east coast of the country, in the Caribbean Sea, to the Tortuguero National Park, where it’s possible to find some of the most varied animal species in the world. Arrival at the end of the morning (traffic permitting) and accommodation in the Hotel. During the rest of the day we will start visiting the park and settle in the pretty village with a canoe trip during a beautiful sunset. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
The day will begin, as always in the morning after breakfast, with a nice walk on the beach. During the months of July, August and September it is in fact possible to witness the exciting hatching of the sea turtles’ eggs. It is no coincidence that we are talking about the Tortuguero Park, or land of turtles. We will therefore take all the time necessary to make beautiful photos of this unforgettable moment. We will then continue by sailing in rowing canoes with local guides, entering the surrounding nature, listening to its voice and admiring the wildlife that lives there. We will end the day with a beautiful sunset. Dinner at leisure and overnight at the hotel.
Wake up at first light for final walk to admire the hatching of the sea turtles once again. Once we have said goodbye to this magnificent place with a beautiful souvenir photo we will return to our vehicles and leave for the next destination: the Arenal volcano. We will arrive at the hotel in the afternoon. The varied geographical area of Arenal includes four types of forest, pre-mountain-wet, mountain-rain, tropical-wet, and finally rainy-low-mountain. If the weather conditions are in our favor there will certainly be no shortage of starry sky photos, so a tripod is recommended for long exposures. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
After a hearty breakfast, we will go to visit the naturalistic center dedicated to the endemic species of Costa Rica. Here it will be possible to see many animals, many of which unfortunately endangered. In addition to being a rehabilitation center, the center is also used to reproduce endangered species and then release them freely. It will therefore be possible to create unique photographic shots. In the afternoon we will experience the zipline in one of the most beautiful parks in all of Costa Rica. We will fly over the forest, darting from one side to the other, we will walk over elevated bridges surrounded by greenery on the slopes of the volcano with Lake Arenal in the background. During the activities it will be possible to see toucans and some primate species so the use of the action camera is recommended. It will be the best way to capture an incredible memory. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
The day is dedicated to abandoning oneself completely to the surrounding. The Arenal volcano is considered to be one of the 20 most active volcanoes in the world and during the day we will dedicate ourselves to the realization of various optional activities: trekking on the volcano, panoramic car ride in the small city of La Fortuna, with its typical shops and restaurants, some hours in a spa, or, for those who have not been fully satisfied, a last ride on the longest and highest zip line in Costa Rica, perhaps taking more photos of some of the country’s particular endemic animal species. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
We will leave early in the morning, after breakfast, towards the Manuel Antonio National Park (about 236 km – 5h). We will travel along the Pan-American Highway, one of the most famous roads in the world, which connects South America to North America. We will arrive at the hotel in the early afternoon. Afterwards it will be possible to relax on the beautiful beach offered by this enchanting place, and enjoy the sunset in the beautiful restaurant “El Avion”. Supposedly, former CIA agent Barry Seal, played by Tom Cruise in the “Barry Seal” movie, used this plane to transport drugs from South America to the United States. Free dinner and an overnight stay in hotel.
First we will go to visit the Manuel Antonio National Park. We will dive into a living paradise characterized by crystal clear water and shining green vegetation. Animals of all kinds such as iguanas, basilisks, toucans, sloths and capuchin monkeys, and many other endemic species. It will be possible to take beautiful close-up photographs of this wonderful fauna. The park has a well delimited path; we will therefore have the opportunity to visit it all day but once we will leave it, it will not be possible to return. For this reason we will organize a picninc lunch to enjoy the beautiful “Playa Manuel Antonio” beach. Here we will have nice encounters with raccoons and capuchin monkeys. The park will close at 16:00 so we will return to the hotel by then. After a refreshing shower, we will go out to enjoy the sunset. For those interested, it will be possible to make a night excursion to see the forest light at night with UV lamps (excursion not included, request info). Free dinner and an overnight stay in hotel.
